Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Galleries at 820 Main?
2 Fine Art Galleries grouped together in one location on route 28 in Harwich Port, Cape Cod.
What Is a Co-operative Gallery?
A Co-operative Gallery is operated by the artists who rent space from the owner. The artists contribute to the operating expenses and take turns working the Gallery. A conventional gallery, on the other hand, is operated by the owner who represent the artist whose work is displayed and sold. The owner most often takes art work on consignment and charges the artist a commission on sales.
What Are the Advantages to a Co-Op?
* When you visit 820 Main Gallery, the person you meet is not a salesperson, but
one of our artists, who is knowledgeable about the work on display.
* You are dealing directly with the artist. No commision is paid.
* You are free to browse at your leisure.
* If you wish to consult with any of our artists in regard to their work, we will be glad
to arrange an appointment.
How does Commissioning work?
Perhaps you have been thinking how wonderful it would be to capture the unique spirit of a special family memoir: cherished children or grandchildren frolicking at the beach; a house portrait that would remind you of your second home; a portrait of a family pet, or a favorite Cape Cod view. All are possible with our member artists. You may have terrific photos sitting in albums (or in envelopes) that you rarely have occasion to view. It could be a dream come true to have the essence of your exerience represented in an original painting you can enjoy in your home. Working from your photographs, it is possible to depict a quality not attainable in a single snapshot. Your sense of place will come through in discussions with one of our artists, and your experience can be incorporated into the painting. Best of all, you will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable this process is.
